Rifnik Archaeological Park

The hill above Šentjur, which has been inhabited since the Neolithic era, is now converted into an archaeological park at the site of the largest late antique settlement in Slovenia

The hill above Šentjur, which has been inhabited since the Neolithic era, is now converted into an archaeological park at the site of the largest late antique settlement in Slovenia and is a popular hiking point with a beautiful view. The Archaeological Park is open all year. It is possible to see the foundations of two early Christian churches, seven houses and defensive walls with guardhouses and a fountain. The history of Rifnik is displayed on exhibition panels in the reconstructed prehistoric house. The excavations can be seen in the Museum Collection Rifnik and its treasures, located at the Zgorni trg Square in Šentjur.

On the northern slope are castle ruins from the 14th century, which for some time was also in the possession of the Counts of Celje.
