The New Swing Quartet undoubtedly ranks as one of the top bands that marked the second half of the 20th century in Slovenia. From the very beginning of its existence, the Quartet expanded beyond local and national contexts. They brought hitherto unknown and at first glance strange musical traditions to Slovenia and through their superb interpretation of this music, they made Slovenia known to other countries far away.
Through their many years of activity, the Quartet and its members have become an indispensable part of the Slovenian cultural and historical heritage. Therefore, the initiative to establish a commemorative room and a permanent exhibition is a logical step to ensuring a permanent place for the band in the local collective memory and is a justified tribute to the quartet and its activities. The decision to open the commemorative room in Šentjur, where the New Swing Quartet originates from, is a
way for the town to acknowledge the quartet and vice versa.
The commemorative room with its permanent exhibition seeks to inform visitors of the history and activities of the Quartet and its importance in the Slovenian and international arenas. Music is at the heart of the exhibition, which is entirely bilingual - in Slovene and English.
