Agricultural School and outbuildings

Regular classes began in January 1910 as the first school of this kind with Slovenian as the language of instruction in the Habsburg Monarchy.

The provincial Agricultural School was founded in 1907 when the provincial assembly in Graz approved the necessary funds. Regular classes began in January 1910 as the first school of this kind with Slovenian as the language of instruction in the Habsburg Monarchy. The school is a two-story, strongly articulated building with an emphasized entrance portal.

The establishment of the college is largely accredited to Dr. Gustav Ipavec, the mayor at that time. The school and outbuildings were upgraded at the end of 1909. Its first headmaster was Ivan Belle. The main purpose of the school was the organization of annual theoretical and practical courses for country boys from livestock-rearing areas. All branches of agriculture were covered, with the exception of viticulture, which was in the domain of another regional institution in Styria, i.e. Wine and Fruit Growing School in Maribor.

The school is now called the School Centre Šentjur and still predominantly implements agricultural programmes or programmes linked to rural areas.
