Resevna, a 682-meter hill southwest of Šentjur, is a popular hiking spot featuring a lookout tower, a mountain lodge, and a swing. The hill got its name from the blue-flowering heath (resje in Slovene). Its forests are rich in wild fruits such as blueberries, mushrooms, and chestnuts. In the clearing below the summit stands a memorial commemorating events from World War II.
Hiking trails to Resevna
Trail Šentjur–Resevna
The trail can start either at the bus station or at the train station in Šentjur.
From the bus station, cross the bridge over the Pešnica stream, pass the health center’s parking lot, and turn right onto Leon Dobrotinšek Street. Continue through the underpass below the main Šentjur–Celje road and the Maribor–Zidani Most railway line.
From the train station, walk past the Southern Railway Museum and the locomotive; the path ends with stairs leading into the underpass, where you turn left.
Cross the Voglajna River and turn right at the intersection, following signs for Resevna, which lead through the Hruševec district. The trail begins to climb at a small chapel at the foot of Resevna. The first ascent is short and levels off briefly at a hayrack in the hamlet of Kranjčica, before continuing uphill.
The path follows the road until entering the forest, where you’ll notice parked cars – a common starting point for hikers arriving by car. A little higher up, turn left onto a gravel road marked with a hiking signpost that leads to the Resevna Mountain Lodge. From there, follow the trail markers to the top. Shortly before the top, at the paved road, you can refresh yourself at a natural spring with drinking water.

The trail starts in Šibenik near Šentjur, right next to the technical museum Ferlež Mill, situated beneath a rocky cliff in the Kozarica stream gorge. Cars can be parked at a small gravel parking space near a farm building along the Šentjur–Šentrupert–Laško road.
The trail crosses the Kozarica stream, passes the mill and several houses, and climbs across forest to grassy slopes. On the right you can see a dark rock slope, once used to carve millstones. The trail continues past scattered houses, partly on road and cart track, partly on footpaths with short steep ascents. At times, views open to the southeast towards the Kozjansko hills.
Reaching the asphalt road, a large clearing comes into view with a monument to two fallen Partisans, Cvetka Jerin and Dušan Lah. On the left side of the clearing, a road closed to traffic leads past a mountain shelter to the Resevna Lodge. From there, it’s just a few steps to the summit with its 20-meter-high lookout tower.

Marked all the way, it runs partly on road and cart track, partly on paths with short steep ascents. Along the way, there is a natural spring with drinking water. Resevna Lookout Tower
Construction began in 1995, and the 20-meter metal tower opened the following year. Since the forest covers the summit, the tower provides views otherwise hidden from ground level.

- To the north, you can see Konjiška gora and Pohorje with Rogla behind.
The Swing at Resevna
Just a few steps from the lodge, hidden among tall trees, hangs an elegant wooden swing attached to the thick branches of a naturally bent tree.
The swing is part of the educational corner The Sounding Landscapes of Šentjur, inviting visitors to sit and listen to the sounds of nature – the rustling wind, whispering treetops, and birdsong. Informational boards present the bird species of Resevna, including tactile reliefs of their shapes and descriptions of their calls.
